I began with interviewing the cafe's owner to learn why they felt eLearning was needed. The owner had opened several cafes. Shifts varied, staffing, and time spent basic information on the floor pulled experienced baristas and trainers away from customers. Using the "Portfolio Rationalization Model", an custom eLearning solution was needed to ensure new hires were trained properly.
I observed floor trainers and higher performing baristas. I wanted to learn how the coffee experience process was successfully completed.
I learned that the largest learning gap for new baristas was selecting the proper roast and brewing method. I also learned that interacting with local customers was key for the business. This led me to design a scenario-based eLearning solution.
After observing, I laid out the intent of the training, what topics would need to be covered to meet the intent, and what the training outcomes would be. This would lead me to define the learning objectives.
I took the learning objectives, and created a storyboard. The storyboard became my guide to designing a mock up.
I used Canva to find a coffee themed presentation. There were many options, but based on the feedback from the owner I went with a format that was realistic. After creating the presentation in Canva, I exported it to Microsoft PowerPoint to create a mock up based off the storyboard.
Once I completed the mockup, I took it to the stakeholders for approval. This consisted of the owner and the floor staff I observed. I imported the PowerPoint into Articulate 360 and begin creating the eLearning course.
I provided a pilot course to 3 new hires, and obtained feedback on the first 2 levels of Kirkpatrick's 4 Levels of Evaluation. The learners enjoyed the content. It also reduced t
